Counterfeit

There have been several news articles aimed at increasing consumer awareness of dishonesty in the dietary supplement industry and at teaching consumers how to make wise decisions when selecting supplements. For example, Boston Magazine reported that as many as one in three supplements purchased could be fake. The New York Times reported that the New York State Attorney General’s office targeted four major national retailers for selling fraudulent and potentially dangerous herbal supplements. Recently, US Attorney General Loretta Lynch called for increased consumer awareness of “unsafe dietary supplements” in the marketplace recommending, “Above all, if you are considering taking a dietary supplement, talk to your doctor first.” 

   

Potency and Efficacy

But it’s not just the possibility of counterfeit or fraudulent vitamins that should be considered. The New York Times also posted an article about the warehouse conditions of a large fulfillment center. Warehouse temperatures can reach over 100 degrees F, which can drastically degrade the potency and efficacy (effectiveness) of products. In most cases, expiration dates are not posted in the product page details, and there is no way to tell how many people have bought and returned the product. According to that large fulfillment center’s return policy, you can return any purchase up to 30 days after receipt of shipment for a full refund.

So, what can you do to ensure the supplements you are relying upon to support your health are authentic? First and foremost, know WHO you are buying them from! Seek a trustworthy source. Electronic Track and Trace

Recognizing, sadly, that fraud is a growing problem in our industry, XYMOGEN took the initiative to find a solution to ensure formula authenticity; it’s called ePedigree. Every bottle of every formula that leaves XYMOGEN’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility is serialized with a unique ID. This ID is scanned into our system and allows us to track and trace each individual bottle or box with details like expiration dates and the purchaser’s account information.

Drug Quality and Security Act

XYMOGEN is ahead of the curve! Congress recently passed the Drug Quality and Security Act, or DQSA, requiring pharmaceutical companies to institute an electronic tracing system for all prescription drugs sold in the United States. These new requirements will be phased in by pharmaceutical companies and must be in place by the year 2024. Ever innovative, XYMOGEN planned ahead and set up a successful electronic tracing system that has been up and running for over two years.

  

Tracking Offenders

While we recognize that we are not the only company providing quality, pharmaceutical-grade supplements, we are the only company that guarantees the authenticity of our products. We regularly search the internet to buy our products back from online sellers and then we trace the product to the original purchaser. To date, we have closed more than 115 accounts, with a combined revenue of over $5.6 million, for breaking our No Internet Sales Policy. Tracking offenders takes time and perseverance, but it underscores our belief in the importance of our customers being able to order quality supplements from a safe and reputable source.

  

Quality Manufacturing

Above all, any supplements you take should be made using the best ingredients in a highly-regulated, quality manufacturing facility. All of our processes are completely controlled so we can ensure material, component, and product quality and safety from beginning to end. IFOS IFOS & IKOS

The International Fish Oil Standards Program and the International Krill Oil Standards Program are the only third-party testing and certification programs for fish and krill oils. These organizations verify active ingredients such as omega-3 fatty acids, test for environmental contaminants and harmful chemicals that can be present as a result of the ecosystem, and test stability or shelf life of the product. Almost all of XYMOGEN’s OmegaPure fish oils and our OmegaPure Krill Oil are IFOS and IKOS-certified respectively.
